Political parties and leaders should talk to one another in the wider interest of the country
Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Rabita Committee has said the country’s situation is alarming and urged all the political parties and opponents to show tolerance, sagacity and understanding.
In a joint statement they said, “ The country is passing through a difficult time. The present situation threatens democracy, economy, development and stability of the country. The situation demands that all political parties and leaders should put aside their personal, family and ideological interests and should talk to one another in the wider interest of the country. They should try to understand and make rooms for one another. They should not show stubbornness, egoism and self-interest.”
“Democracy will flourish and parties can play their roles only if we have a country. Therefore, all parties should adopt dialogue and strengthen their understanding if they want to save and provide stability to the country. We cannot strengthen democracy by chanting slogans. Democracy will not be strengthened in the country unless fruits of democracy reach to ordinary Pakistanis. We must do structural changes in the country. Bring land reforms. End dynastic rule. Bring in electoral reforms with the consultation of all parties and amend laws to do that. We will have to create more administration units and make local bodies government essential for democracy. Amendments in the laws should be made in this regard. It should be ensured that power is devolved to low level of authority, “ Rabita Committee said.
“MQM considers that there should be quick change in the country. However, we cannot bring change in the country by changing faces. We must change the outmoded repressive system of the country. The system should be made people friendly not ruler friendly. We should not set a precedent of changing a government which will make future government difficult to continue. This kind of precedent will make the desire of political and administrative stability a dream, “ Rabita Committee said.
“We should consider the current political crisis a chance and try to get the nation out of poverty, illiteracy, terrorism and tyranny which the people have been enduring for 67 years. We should take measures to run this country as envisioned by Quaid-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, “ Rabita Committee said.
“Mr. Hussain has stressed the need of dialogue before the commencement of this political crisis. He has played historical role in this regard, “ Rabita Committee said.
Rabita Committee discussed the problems of people of Urban Sindh in their meeting and termed the situation alarming. They expressed concern over the unavailability of water, power crisis, and poor management of civic services.  They said that people’s problems could be solved without a powerful local governments.
“We had expected that provincial government would devolve more power to local bodies. Instead they transferred all authorities to provincial ministries. Now they are using the power to exploit urban areas. The situation has created a sense of anxiety and disappointment in the urban people. We cannot ignore this. MQM understands the need to solve the problems of its voters and could stage protest demonstration for their basic rights, “ Rabita Committee said.
