MQM INTERIM COORDINATION COMMITTEE DEMANDS PM, COAS, CJ TO TAKE NOTICE OF UNLAWFUL DETENTION OF AKRAM RAJPUT, ZAIR ARAIN

LONDON. January 15, 2018: The Muttahidda Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) interim Coordination Committee has demanded the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Chief of Army Staffs General Qamar Jawaid Bajwah and Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Saquib Nisar to take immediate notice of unlawful detention of the coordination Committee’s ex-member Akram Rajput and young MQM activist from Federal B area Zair Arain and their enforced disappearances after their unlawful arrest.

In its statement, the interim Coordination Committee said that Arain was arrested by the security force from his residence located at Federal B Area in wee hours on Saturday while Rajput was taken into custody on midnight of this past Sunday but the arresting security forces have not yet recognised their arrest but have enforced the to disappear. Conversely, MQM senior leader and Coordination Committee ex-senior deputy convener Prof. Dr Hassan Zafar Arif was abducted by the security force, which tortured him to death on last Saturday.

It said that it is now a routine of the security forces of Pakistan to kidnap MQM workers and leaders, enforce them to disappear and then torture them to death in custody and thus the human rights violations have crossed all limits.

The interim Coordination Committee appealed to the international rights organisations to take prompt notice of unlawful detention and enforced disappearances of Rajpu and Arain because their lives are in serious dangers as the security forces may also execute them extrajudicially.
