No charges to be brought against MQM or its members
MQM has been informed that the British Metropolitan Police Service has made a decision that no charges are to be brought against MQM or any of its members with respect to allegations of money laundering.
Ending a process that has taken over two years, party funds held by the authorities are to be returned; the application for cash forfeiture will be withdrawn.
On hearing the news, Mr Altaf Hussain, Founder and Leader of MQM said, “Today’s decision confirms that MQM has been innocent all along. The allegations levelled against my party and I have proved baseless.
“MQM is a legitimate political party whose members strive for a better Pakistan. Now that we no longer face the prospect of criminal investigations in the United Kingdom, we might focus our efforts on the plight of all the people of Pakistan particularly Mohajirs who for nearly a year have seen their democratic elections ignored."
