The Nation:MQM hunger strike continues

KARACHI - The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) hunger strike entered fourth day yesterday outside Karachi Press Club against the arrest of party workers and raids.


During the day, MQM leaders and workers observing the strike, fell unconscious where as few were taken to the hospitals for the medical treatment.
Furthermore, MQM medical aid committee was also seen in action at the hunger strike camp, providing medical facilities to the members the strike.

MQM has been staging “hunger strike untill death” since Wednesday against what it terms the injustices against the party, extrajudicial murders and arrests of its workers and political victimization.

Whereas on the 4th day of hunger strike various political parties leaders, civil society members and other organizations kept visiting the MQM camp to express solidarity with the MQM leaders and workers.

Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani visited the camp and enquired about the health of the MQM leaders and workers observing the hunger strike.

“I am here to express solidarity with the MQM leaders while ready to play role to resolve the issue,” said Agha while talking to the media men.
He said that it is the duty of the Speaker to address issues faced by both government and opposition.

“I will talk to the Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in this regard and will try my best to resolve the issue on immediate basis,” he assured.

MQM’s Deputy Convener Kanwar Naveed Jamil thanked Durani for expressing solidarity with the party.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz delegation also visited MQM hunger strike camp.
PML-N delegation included Ismail Raho, Nehal Hashmi, Saleem Zia, Shah Mohammad Shah, Sahfique Jamoot and others.
MQM leaders including Dr Farooq Sattar, Amir Khan during the meeting with the PML-Nawaz delegation informed about the MQM reservations on the Karachi targeted operation while Senator Nehal Hashmi assured the MQM leaders to convey it to the Prime Minister.
  

Speaking on the occasion, PML-N Sindh Chief Ismail Raho said that PML-N leaders on the direction of Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif to inquire about the complaints and issue of the people observing hunger strike unto death.
The issues would be taken to PM and government, he added.

He said that PM after taking all stake holders in confidence lunched Karachi targeted operation to restore peace in the provincial capital while the extra judicial killing is volition of law.
Political forces should sit together for the supremacy of law, he added.

Similarly, MWM leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbass, All Pakistan Sunni Tehreek Chairman Matloob Awan, Senior Advocate Supreme Court Ahsan Iqbal, former vice Chairman Karachi Bar Association Nasir Mehmood along with others advocates also visited MQM hunger strike camp to express solidarity with MQM workers and leaders.
