India's independence in 1947 was incomplete: Altaf Hussain

"Special Lecture on "India's Incomplete Independence"

London. January 7, 2022:

Most learned scholar, academician, tribune and eminent statesman and founder leader of MQM, Mr. Altaf Hussain has said that India's independence in 1947 was incomplete. The true independence cannot be completed until India is restored to it's centuries old demography prior to the English invasion and occupation.

He expressed these views in a lecture to MQM workers. The theme of the lecture was "Incomplete Independence of India."

Hussain said that historically the subcontinent consisted of a large region including India and Pakistan which has a history spanning thousands of years.  The geography of India was inhabited by Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and adherents of other religions, sects and beliefs. When the colonial era began and the British Empire began to occupy less developed countries with its knowledge, modern technology and military might, its empire had spread over such a large part on Earth that it was believed that the Sun never sets there.  People from the British Empire came to India in the form of traders.

They reviewed India's culture, way of life, development, military situation, wealth and geography and came to the conclusion that the British Empire would benefit greatly if the subcontinent was occupied. The British Empire gradually began to gain a foothold in India under the name of East India Company from the time of Mughal Emperors and with the overthrow of the last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar the British East India Company fully occupied India. Various movements for Indian independence were started and freedom fighters continued to fight. They were executed and sacrificed. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists and Indians of all faiths and creeds had united in this struggle for India's independence, transcending colour, race, religion and creed.

In 1885, India's first formal political party, the All Indian National Congress was formed for the end of British rule, the independence of the subcontinent and the political rights of the people of India.  Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a lawyer by profession who was later called "Mahatma Gandhi". Due to his hard and persistent struggle and sacrifices, Mahatma Gandhi started uniting the people of India for the political struggle for independence.  The Congress included Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians and adherents of all religions and faiths, including Persians.

Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Vallabh Bhai Patel and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad were eminent leaders in Indian Congress. Muhammad Ali Jinnah was also a member of the Congress. Also included were Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad and other personalities who sacrificed their lives for freedom.

Hussain said that thanks to the sacrifices of those great leaders of the independence movement. India got independence but it was an incomplete independence.

He asked Indian leaders, historians, intellectuals, poets, writers, journalists, analysts and students whether these leaders of the independence movement had sacrificed for the complete independence of India or for the partition of India.

They never even thought of incomplete independence of India.

The leaders of India, who called Muhammad Ali Jinnah responsible for the partition and an agent of the British, also accepted the partition of India and did what Jinnah did.

Then, what is the difference between Jinnah and them?  How can those who sacrificed for the independence of India, who had not recognised this partition till date and who are directly or indirectly engaged in the struggle for the fulfilment of this incomplete independence till today, be ignored?

He said that the joys of India's independence are also incomplete. India's incomplete independence cannot be complete unless it is geographically complete until India isn't returned in the same condition in which it was occupied by the British.

He said that India was divided by the British, a British viceroy sat down and drew a line in the middle and India was divided. As a result of that division not only the geography of India but also the families were divided, the heritage of the families, the society, the civilisation, the culture was all divided.

This is an unprecedented mockery of history in the name of freedom.

Hussain said that India's partition was the biggest mistake of history. This partition is a major sin and the biggest crime that the people of India and Pakistan are still suffering.

He said that if there would be no division, people on both sides would not have to migrate, nor would our forefathers had to leave their homeland from thousands of years and come to Pakistan.

We would not have been treated like strangers here in Pakistan. We would not have been treated with prejudice. We would not have needed to form MQM.

Hussain said that now our life is connected with Sindh, now Sindh is our homeland and we want to see Sindh free.

Addressing Mohajir people, he said that if a nation is not ready to break the chains of slavery and becomes accustomed to wearing the shackles of compulsion, then slavery and humiliation and disgrace will be their destiny from generation to generation. Therefore, you have to put off the veil of expediency, cowardice and selfishness and fight for the survival of your nation and for the dignified life and better future of the coming generations.

He asked the workers to study the history.
