19- CENSUS AND ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES

To conduct the affairs of the country in an effective and efficient manner it is essential that a correct census be carried out so that definite plans could be drawn up on the basis of facts and figures. MQM wants that census to be conducted in the country on a modern scientific basis, regularly. In this regard it is also essential that past mistakes and injustices are not repeated and shortcomings in the existing procedure are corrected. A Census has not been conducted in the country for a long time. As a result the country has been faced with new problems all the time. Although the country’s population has increased significantly, it is regrettable that the national and provincial constituencies have neither been increased nor re-demarcated in accordance with the rise in population. The number of people in every constituency has increased and the elected representatives cannot effectively deal with all the problems faced by the people. It is, therefore, essential that the number of constituencies are increased and adjustments made in the national and provincial assembly seats in accordance with the revised population ratio in different constituencies.
