MQM CANDIDATE DR AMIR LIAQUAT HUSSAIN AND FORMER PARLIAMENTARIAN ABDUL QADIR LAKHANI ESCAPE  ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

On 19^th. September 2002, at around 7.30 p.m. (London Time) and 12.30 a.m. (Karachi Time), Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain, an MQM candidate for the National Assembly in the forthcoming General Elections and a former MQM Member of the Provincial Assembly Mr Abdul Qadir Lakahni were returning to the election office after attending the telephonic address of Mr Altaf Hussain simultaneously in Baldia Town, Burns Road and New Karachi. They were besieged by scores of sophisticatedly armed and murderous fanatics of the “Sunni Tehrik”, an intelligence agencies patronised religious fanatical group. The terrorists opened fire but miraculously both escaped death. This unfortunate event took place at the “Murghi (Chicken) Market” in Ranchore Line, Karachi . As a result of firing, several MQM workers have been critically injured and rushed to the Local Hospital . We are awaiting details of the wounded to forward to you and also post on our website. 

While one Death Squad of the “Sunni Tehrik” was carrying out the assassination attempt, the other had attacked the office of the MQM Unit No.27 and kidnapped an MQM worker Mr Tahir Sheikh S/O Mehmood Sheikh, whose whereabouts are still unknown. We fear that he would be killed after brutal torture. The third death squad attacked the MQM Unit Office No.30 where they brutally tortured an MQM worker Mr Adnan Ahmed Qureshi S/O Ahmed Qureshi.

The intelligence agencies have activated their patronised criminal gangs, terrorists groups and religious militants to harass, intimidate and kill the MQM leaders, office bearers, workers, nominated candidates, supporters and their relatives as a part of the pre-election rigging. The MQM leaders and office bearers are desperately trying to inform the Police and administration but none of the officials are responding to the fervent telephone calls of the MQM leaders and office bearers.
