RUPEES WORTH 50 MILLION SO FAR IN AID OF THE EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS FROM MUTTAHIDA QUAMI MOVEMENT (MQM) RELIEF ITEMS INCLUDE TENTS, BLANKETS, QUILTS, WARM CLOTHING, MEDICINES, FOOD PROVISIONS AND ESSENTIAL ITEMS OF DAILY USE

Karachi-10 October 2005..Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) under the auspice of its Charitable Wing Khidmat-e-Khalq Committee is formally dispatching first consignment of relief goods tonight. Approximately 40 million worth of relief goods include tents, blankets, quilts, warm clothing, medicine, food provisions and essential items of daily use. These items have been deposited by the people of Karachi in the Relief Camps set up in different areas.

 

These items will be despatched with the co-operation of the Governmental Authorities. Spaces in C130 Transporters Military Aircraft, trucks and 3 bogies in the train have been made available to Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation.

 

The goods include 90610 kilo Atta, 6600 blankets and quilts, 9 ton ghee, 50 tents, 90,000 kilo sugar, 10,000 kilo rice, 500 kilo tea leaves, 2500 dried milk, 5000 packets of biscuits, 5000 packets of vermicelli, 2000 dozens of soap tablets, large quantity of roasted chickpeas and gurh, 100 kilo spices, 2000 warm clothing, 2000 kafan clothing, 5000 cartons of mineral water, 2 tons of mixed lentils, 3 dozens torch lights, different types of medicine for 70,000 patients.

 

These relief items have been donated within the past 24 hours by the people of different part of Karachi alone on the appeal of Mr Altaf Hussain, founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) while collection of relief goods on a large scale is continuing.

 

It is to be noted that Rupees 5 million cash has been already donated to the President Relief Fund and Rupees 5 million worth of medicines have already been dispatched.

 

Furthermore, Rupees 20 million worth of relief goods have been donated by the people of different parts of Sindh including Hyderabad, which are being sent directly to Punjab and NWFP by road.

 

300 bottles of blood are being sent. 30 doctors including orthopaedic surgeons, 

neuro-surgeons and paramedics are already serving in the earthquake-affected areas.

    Moreover, MQM is also separately donating Rupees hundreds of thousands worth of relief goods comprising Sheermal bread, biscuits, candles, matchboxes, roasted chickpeas and gurh etc.
