ALL PARTIES AND PROVINCES CONFERENCE SHOULD BE
CALLED ON KALABAGH DAM  - ALTAF HUSSAIN

London: 30 November 2005

The MQM leader Mr Altaf Hussain has stated that the prevailing international political and geographical situation, Pakistan’s politic-economic condition after the disastrous earthquake of 8 October 2005 resulting in untold loss of life and property and recent progress on Kashmir issue call for National consensus on all crucial issues.   Such need for national consensus had never existed in the past.  It is, therefore imprudent to highlight those matters which had been a bone of contention among the provinces and different political parties.  The projects such as Bhasha Dam and Kalabagh Dam have been a cause of rift and bitterness among the provinces, who have reservations on such schemes. He has, therefore proposed that a conference consisting of all the provinces and all the parties who have views on the scheme should be called immediately which will provide all the political, religious and nationalist parties and the provinces to air their views and differences.  The conference shall provide all concerned an opportunity to develop a consensus on Kalabagh Dam.  He said that his opinion is based on personal sincerity and in the wider interest of the country.
