PRESS CONFERENCE

KARACHI: 11TH MAY 2011:

RESPECTED JOURNALISTS

First of all we thank the print and electronic media for coming to attend this emergency Press Conference. The press conference has been called to inform you and the people of Pakistan about the efforts and the line of action of the MQM for meeting the current sensitive situation of Pakistan.

Pakistan is passing through a critical phase after the death of Osama Bin Laden on 2nd May as a result of the operation conducted by the US forces in Abbottabad. Questions have been raised over national security, sovereignty and freedom of the country because of events unfolding after the killing of Osama Bin Laden. There never was a need for national solidarity in the country as it is required today. It was Mr Altaf Hussain who took a bold stance on the issue and called for a round table conference for informing the public about the events arising after the killing of Osama Bin Laden. Feeling his responsibility as a truly patriotic Pakistani and moved by his responsibility towards the nation he has announced a public referendum to pull the country out of the current precarious condition. He has formulated a questionnaire consisting of 17 questions which we are presenting to the nation through you.

RESPECTED JOURNALISTS

The campaign of public referendum will end on 17th May after which the result will be announced.

We would like to appeal to all patriotic religious and political leaders, political workers, intellectuals, analysts, columnists, journalists, traders, businessmen, shopkeepers, doctors, engineers, lawyers, students, labourers and all other people belonging to various fields of life to take active part in this public referendum. We appeal to all to exhibit national solidarity and make this public referendum a success.
