PEACEFUL DAY OF
MOURNING OBSERVED BY THE MQM ON THE MARTYRDOM OF LIAQUAT QURESHI
KARACHI: 1ST MAY 2011:
A day of mourning was observed by the MQM on Sunday across
Pakistan on the tragic martyrdom of former MPA and member of Muttahida Lawyers
Forum Liaquat Ali Qureshi. Black flags and condolatory banners were hoisted at
the party offices, markets and streets. Business activities in Karachi remained
suspended on the appeal of Mr Altaf Hussain and transport remained off the
streets. Congregations were held at the party offices in Karachi, interior
Sindh, the Punjab, Baluchistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir for offering
fateha and recitation of the Holy Quran for blessing the soul of Liaquat Ali
Qureshi. Glowing tributes were paid to Liaquat Qureshi for his services to the
party.
The main gathering was held in Lal Qila Ground in Azizabad adjacent to Nine Zero. Death anniversary of Chairman Azim Ahmed Tariq also falls on the 1st May. Deputy Conveners of the MQM Dr Farooq Sattar and Anis Ahmed Qaim Khani along with other members of the Co-ordination Committee, MQM parliamentarians, office-bearers of various wings of the MQM and workers of various units and sectors attended the gathering in large numbers. Provincial Minister for Auqaf Abdul Haseeb offered fateha for Chairman Azim Ahmed, Liaquat Ali Qureshi and all the other martyrs of the party. Prayers were also offered for the long life and good health of Mr Altaf Hussain.

COMMITTEE LONDON CONDOLES WITH BROTHER OF LIAQUAT QURESHI
LONDON: 1ST MAY 2011:
Members of the MQM Co-ordination Committee in London telephoned Jamal Qureshi,
the younger brother of former MPA Liaquat Qureshi, and offered their
condolences. They said that the services rendered by Liaquat Qureshi for the
party in testing times would always be remembered. They said that the martyrdom
of Liaquat Qureshi was a big loss and it had saddened all the workers of the
party. They asked Jamal Qureshi to bear with patience and should believe the
blood of the martyred Liaquat Qureshi’s will not go in vain. They said that the
blood of martyrs will bring a revolution in the country. They prayed Almighty
Allah to shower His blessings on the departed soul and give courage and patience
to the family members to bear this loss.
MQM DENOUNCES BURNING OF VEHICLES ON ITS DAY OF MOURNING
KARACHI: 1ST MAY 2011:
Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned the incidents of burning of vehicles in some parts of the city on the occasion of the day of mourning called today after the murder of former member of Sindh Assembly Liaquat Qureshi. The Committee categorically stated that the MQM had appealed for a peaceful day of mourning but miscreants in certain parts of the city tried to sabotage the peaceful mourning by setting vehicles on fire. The Committee asked the MQM workers to keep a watchful eye and inform the Police and law-enforcing agencies about any untoward incident.
