TERRORISTS OF GANG WAR THRIVE AS THE ADMINISTRATION LOOKS THE OTHER WAY

MQM CO-ORDINATION COMMITTEE DEMANDS ACTION AGAINST TERRORISTS AND EXTORTIONISTS IN THE CITY

KARACHI: 31ST MARCH 2011

The Co-ordination Committee of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has said that the growing influence of the terrorists belonging to the gang war in Layari, Burns Road, Urdu Bazar and other areas of the city is a cause of serious concern. The Committee said that the terrorists of the gang war have been given a virtual license to operate freely in the city and they are carrying out their despicable business of sending extortion slips to traders, businessmen and shopkeepers without any fear of the long arm of the law.

The Committee said that the city of Karachi is the centre of business activities in the country and leaving the business community at the mercy of criminal mafia will tantamount to throwing the city to dogs. The Committee said that there are several instances on record wherein traders and businessmen were threatened with dire consequences and when they did not bow down to the ominous threats, they were murdered.

The Co-ordination Committee said that despite the protests of the trade associations and their peaceful demonstrations for demanding security from these anti-social and anti-state elements the government and the administration is refusing to take action which is disconcerting and worthy of utter condemnation.

The Co-ordination Committee demanded of President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani, Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik and Chief Minister Sindh to take immediate notice of the extortions slips being sent to the traders and businessmen and move the proverbial long arm of the law to protect the life and property of the people.
