PROTEST MARCH BY MQM PUT OFF BECAUSE OF THE DAY OF MOURNING

DAY OF MOURNING OBSERVED THROUGHOUT PAKISTAN UNDER THE MQM

KARACHI: 8TH JULY 2011:

The peaceful protest march from the Karachi Press Club to Chief Ministers house, called by the MQM to protest against the failing law and order situation in Karachi and killing of several innocent people has been put off in view of the “day of mourning” today. Members of Sindh Assembly belonging to the MQM would assemble at the Sindh Assembly on Saturday and requisition a special session of the assembly to discuss the situation in Karachi.

Meanwhile a day of mourning was observed throughout Pakistan by haq parast people at the call of the MQM in order to register their protest over unending violence and terrorism in Karachi. People wore black armbands, hoisted black flags at their homes and expressed their solidarity with the innocent people who are being killed in the fresh wave of violence and terrorism in the city.

Markets remained closed and public transport and private vehicles remained off the streets. Market associations and business community also extended full support to the call made by the MQM for mourning the deaths of innocent people.

Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Ghotki, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar, Umar Kot, Thatta, Badin, Larkana, Khairpur, Dadu, Qambar, Shahdadpur, Kashmore and Jacobabad also took active part in the day of mourning announced by the MQM. Traffic remained off the streets and markets remained closed.
