LIFE IN DANGER: MOHAMMAD SHOAIB, INCHARGE OF MQM RANCHORE LINE SECTOR UNLAWFULLY ARRESTED AND TORTURED WHILE IN CUSTODY

Today, at around 12.45 a.m., plain clothed personnel of law enforcement agencies arrested Mohammad Shoaib, Incharge of MQM Ranchore Line Sector in Karachi.  According to details, Mohammad Shoaib was in his office at Finlay House, I.I.Chundrigar Road, Karachi, when the personnel of law enforcement agencies raided the office and arrested him.  He was immediately subjected to brutal torture and has been taken to unknown destination.  Despite repeated efforts of the MQM Coordination Committee his whereabouts are still unknown. 

 

It is strongly apprehended and feared that his life is in extreme danger.  It has been the practice of the law enforcement agencies to unlawfully detain MQM leaders, office bearers, workers, supporters and their family members.  They are then brutally tortured and forced to sign pre-written confessional statements.

 

Personal Details: Mohammad Shoaib 28, son of Ibrahim, resident of Ramswami in Karachi.  He is the Incharge of MQM Ranchore Line Sector.

 

Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) is the third largest political party of Pakistan and the second largest in the province of Sindh.  Since the commencement of the Army Operation on 19 June 1992, against the MQM, more than 15000 MQM leaders, workers and supporters have been extra-judicially murdered, thousands are languishing in prison on false and fabricated charges, dozens have been awarded death sentences, more than 28 workers are reported missing after being unlawfully arrested, thousands of families have been displaced from their homes and thousands of workers and supporters have been forced to leave the country and are living in exile.
