MQM WANTS EQUAL RIGHTS FOR WOMEN IN EVERY SPHERE OF LIFE: ALTAF HUSSAIN
TELEPHONIC CONVERSATION WITH PRESIDENT OF CANADIAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR UN WOMEN ALMAS JIWANI

Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has said that the MQM wants to give a dignified status to women in society, and it is making practical efforts to eliminate outmoded laws that create a sense of deprivation and alienation among women. He said this while talking to the president of Canadian National Committee for UN Women Ms Almas Jiwani on the telephone at Khursheed Begum Secretariat.

Deputy Conveners of the Co-ordination Committee Dr Farooq Sattar, Mrs Nasreen Jalil, Anis Ahmed Qaimkhani, other members of the committee and women members of the provincial assembly of Sindh were also present on the occasion.

Mr Hussain said that the MQM was actively engaged in creating awareness about the deprivation among women in the country, and it had been raising voice against oppression and injustices against women. The MQM was the only political party in the country that was working for raising the standard of living of women and supporting them in every sphere of life.

Mr Hussain said that the public meeting of the women organized by the MQM was the largest in the world history, and the women had displayed remarkable discipline and asserted themselves in a powerful manner by participating in the public meeting huge numbers. He thanked Allah and the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) for bestowing this honour upon him.

Mr Husain said that women rights leader Asma Jahangir and leader of many other women organizations and NGOs had called him and congratulated on the historic success of the public meeting of women. They rights activists said that they had been making struggle for the women's rights for the past 45 years, but they were outdone by Mr Altaf Hussain. He said that a positive perception of the MQM had been established in the country and throughout the world after this public meeting.

Ms Jiwani congratulated Mr Hussain on the historic success of the public meeting of women held on 19th February and termed a huge gathering of women in the world history.

Mr Hussain welcomed the views of Ms Jiwani and thanked her for attending the public meeting personally. He praised her for the efforts being made by her organization for the rights of the women and gave assurance that the MQM would support the efforts being made by her organization in this regard.

Mr Hussain stressed upon the need of the active women role for abolishing obsolete laws prevailing in the country. It was necessary to give representation to women in every department of life, and the public meeting was proof enough that the MQM wanted equal rights for the women, and it was actively working for it.

Mr Hussain said that conspiracies were made against the MQM in Canada and USA in the past to portray the MQM as a terrorist organization and to stymie the struggle of the poor and middle classes, but the message of the MQM could not be suppressed from reaching the people.

Mr Hussain said that the MQM was a moderate, peace-loving and secular organization that believed in peaceful struggle, and it was actively working for eliminating extremism and sectarianism from the country.  

Ms Jiwani invited Mr Hussain as the chief guest in the annual UN Convention on women issues.
