LONDON: 6TH FEBRUARY 2011

Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement has said that knowledge is power and everything in the universe is connected with knowledge. Knowledge will have its manifestations in the attributes of Allah. “Where there is knowledge there will be piety, equality, justice, advancement and prosperity as against this ignorance will always be accompanied by underdevelopment, fraud, corruption and dishonesty. If you have to become a superpower then you should adopt the path of knowledge and if you are content with playing second fiddle to a super power, then you may chose the path of ignorance.” Mr Altaf Hussain said this while talking to the audience after the inaugural ceremony of Nasir Hussain Arif Hussain Memorial Library and Research Centre in Federal B Area, Karachi. Noted scholar Dr Farman Fatehpuri, vice chancellor of Karachi University Dr Pirzada Qasim  and Chief Trustee of Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation Mustafa Kamal also spoke on the occasion. Deputy Conveners of Co-ordination Committee Dr Farooq Sattar, Anis Ahmed Qaim Khani, members of the committee, parliamentarians and noted personalities from different walks of life were present on the occasion. Prominent among the guests were the elder sisters of Mr Altaf Hussain Ms Tahira Begum, Ms Saira Aslam and other members of the family.

“The building of the library has been constructed at the home of Nasir Hussain and Arif Hussain elder brother and nephew of Mr Altaf Hussain. Speaking about his brother and his nephew Mr Altaf Hussain said that his brother and nephew were not affiliated with any political party. Nasir Hussain was a retired civil servant and Arif Hussain was a graduate of the NED University. They were arrested from their house on the midnight of 5th and 6th December 1995.  They were killed on 9th December after being subjected to inhuman torture for three days. The callous murderers cleft the head of Nasir Hussain with an axe. The High Court, The Supreme Court and the law-enforcing agencies did not take any notice of the barbaric murders.”

“Our family was devastated and my sister in law had to move with her children from one place to another in order to save their lives. They never returned to their home. When we thought about rehabilitating the house we came to the conclusion that there could be no better way of doing so by establishing a library so that students seeking after knowledge may come here and the light of knowledge may spread.”

“Knowledge is power. Where knowledge holds sway that place will be the source of power. Allah sent more than one lack twenty four thousand messengers each with a message of knowledge. Where there is knowledge collective benefits would take precedent before individual gains and instead of pursuing petty linguistic and ethnic lines there would be a desire for national unity and a sense of honour.”

“Allah says in the Quran that we have subdued the universe for you and in it are signs for those who have knowledge. Those who discovered the signs invented the atomic bomb. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has also emphasized upon us to seek knowledge even if we had to travel far and wide for it.”

He said that converting the house of Nasir Hussain and Arif Hussain into a library was a small step towards the spread of knowledge. Acquiring knowledge is the spirit of the manifesto of MQM. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) clearly told us in his last sermon that all human beings are equal. The only superiority is by virtue of piety and piety was the ultimate result of knowledge. This library would provide services to all without any discrimination.
