INJUSTICES AND EXPLOITATION RESULTED IN THE DISMEMBERMENT OF THE COUNTRY IN 1971: ALTAF HUSSAIN

PEOPLE OF BENGAL PLAYED A LEADING ROLE IN THE STRUGGLE FOR PAKISTAN BUT THEY WERE DEPRIVED OF THEIR RIGHTS

LONDON: 16TH DECEMBER 2011:

Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has said that Pakistan was severed in 1971 because of the unending injustices, continuing exploitation and the deep sense of deprivation among the people of East Pakistan.

In a message on the anniversary of the Fall of Dhaka on 16th December 1971 Mr Hussain said that the people of Bengal had played a leading role in the struggle for Pakistan, and they had rendered immeasurable sacrifices. After the creation of Pakistan, they were subjected to gross injustices and were deliberately kept behind in every sphere of life by usurping their rights. When they raised voice of their rights, they were called traitors.

Mr Hussain said that the people of East Pakistan had overwhelmingly voted for the Awami League in the general elections but instead of handing over the power to the elected representatives an army operation was done against them that resulted in large-scale massacres of the innocent people of East Pakistan. It was because of the persistent injustices, fierce oppression and exploitation of the people of East Pakistan that led to the Fall of Dhaka.

Mr Hussain said that it was necessary to take lessons from the blunders and criminal negligence of the past in order to strengthen the remaining Pakistan. He said that the prevailing sense of deprivation among various ethnic groups must be dispelled by giving them their legitimate rights. Mr Hussain prayed for the people killed in the tragedy of East Pakistan and paid glowing tributes to them for their sacrifices
