MQM HAS SWEPT A WAVE OF AWAKENING ACROSS
THE COUNTRY: ALTAF HUSSAIN

THE ONLY WAY TO HERALD A PUBLIC REVOLUTION IS TO SEND
COMMON PEOPLE IN THE ECHELONS OF POWER

Multan: 10 December 2011
Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has said that the relentless struggle of the MQM has swept a wave of awakening across the country. He said that the time was near when the medieval feudal system and hereditary political culture would be wrapped up from the country and a genuine leadership from the poor and middle class would play its role in solving the problems of the people after reaching the corridors of power.

He said this while talking to the officials and workers of MQM Multan Zone and various districts in the Multan Zone Office of the party. Official of the Multan Zone briefed Mr Hussain about the preparation underway in connection with the upcoming public meeting of the MQM in Multan on the 23rd December. They also informed him about the organizational work of the MQM in southern Punjab.

Mr Hussain said that the revolution is usually construed as a positive change. The MQM wanted to change the decaying and oppressive feudal system with a healthy and vibrant system. He said that the age-old feudal system was prevalent in the country for the past 63 years, and it was because of this system that a handful of families belonging to the privileged 2 per cent segment of the population were ruling the country one generation after another. The status quo caused by this system was responsible for the undemocratic, unconstitutional and illegal benefits to the privileged class whereas the poor and middle class constituting the 98 per cent of the population were deprived of even their basic rights.

Mr Hussain said that it was also because of this oppressive hereditary system that the influential feudalist and landlords had subjugated the peasantry and the farmers. He emphasized that the saints and holy personages had always spurned luxuries. While their followers were feasted with sumptuous meals these great holy people themselves subsisted on mere crumbs.

Mr Hussain said that the majority of the people living in the country were held hostage by this outdated system gripping the country. The MQM was striving to break this status quo in order to get the rights of the dispossessed and oppressed people.

Mr Hussain said that the common people could only hear about the senate, national assembly and provincial assemblies. They could never hope and think of actually becoming a member of these centres of power in the country. It was ironical that the feudal lords were talking about revolution when they do not even condescend to talk to the poor people let alone sitting with them. Those, whose words and deeds were in contradiction must not browbeat about revolution.

Mr Hussain said that the MQM was the only political party that had changed the traditional political culture by bringing educated and honest people hailing from the poor and middle class alongside the big feudal lords and capitalists in the assemblies.

Mr Hussain said that the elements that wanted to perpetuate the status quo were terrified by the revolutionary struggle of the MQM. It was because of this fear that they were making negative propaganda against the MQM with a view to misleading the people.

Mr Hussain said that it was because of the Grace of Almighty Allah that the public was beginning to understand the philosophy and ideology of the MQM. The constant struggle of the MQM had swept a wave of awakening across the country.

Mr Hussain said that the only way to bring a revolution in the country was to elect the people facing problems so that they could enact laws for the benefit of the general public instead of legislating for a select few.

Mr Hussain said that the MQM had been demanding the creation of a Seraiki province from the very beginning. It had always been the part of the MQM manifesto.

Mr Hussain said that the MQM would do away with the duplicitous education system from the country after coming into power so that the promising child from a poor family might also aspire for higher education. He said that the public would get employment opportunities, and basic health facilities would be made available in every town and village of the country.

Mr Hussain said that the struggle of the MQM would achieve its destination and tyranny, and oppression would end. He directed the officials of Multan Zone to increase public contacts and use their best abilities for making the public meeting in Multan on 23rd December successful.
