ALTAF HUSSAIN URGES PRIME MINISTER TO TAKE BACK DECISION ABOUT ABOLISHING THE HEC

LONDON: 6TH APRIL 2011

The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has strongly urged upon Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani to take back the decision to abolish the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as it will adversely affect the system of higher education in the country. Mr Altaf Hussain said the Higher Education Commission is a very important institution and the hasty manner in which it is being dissolved is a cause of serious concern. He said that in other parts of the world there are separate ministries for the promotion of higher education and here in Pakistan instead of giving proper attention to the education sector we are abolishing a highly functional institution in a ruthless manner. He said that the abolishing of the HEC would close the doors of higher education and vistas of acquiring modern scientific knowledge to the Pakistani students. He strongly urged upon the federal government to take back the decision about abolishing the HEC and avoid wreaking havoc with the system of higher education in the country.

APATHETIC GOVERNMENT RESPONSE HAS EMBOLDENED THE GANG WAR TERRORISTS: MQM

KARACHI: 6TH APRIL 2011

The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has deplored and condemned the threats and intimidations by the terrorists of the gang war to the shopkeepers of Sher Shah Kabari Market. The committee lamented that the small business owners have been left to the mercy of blood-thirsty terrorists and hardened criminals. The committee declared that the government is being guilty of criminal negligence for not fulfilling its responsibilities to provide protection to the small business owners. The committee said that it was because of the apathetic attitude of the government that the small business owners have taken to streets in order to protest for their rights and demand security for their businesses.

The Co-ordination Committee said that a few months earlier the terrorists belonging to the gang war had killed several shop owners of the Sher Shah Kabari market for their refusal to pay extortion money. The government did nothing and emboldened by sheer absence of action from the government side, they terrorists have once again started to threaten the shop owners and small traders of the Kabari Market for huge sums of extortion money. The Co-ordination Committee demanded of President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Zardari, Federal Interior Rehman Malik and Chief Minister Sindh to take serious notice of the threats of dire consequences to the shopkeepers and small business owners of the Kabari Market and start forceful action against the terrorists and the criminals.
