ALTAF HUSSAIN PRAISES BUSINESS COMMUNITY FOR THEIR PEACEFUL STRIKE

The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has said that the traders and shopkeepers have spoken loudly through their peaceful strike that they want Karachi to be cleansed of extortionists and criminal elements. He said this while talking to the members of the Co-ordination Committee at Nine Zero. Mr Altaf Hussain said that the traders, industrialists, small business owners in particular and the people of Karachi in general have become fed up with the rising number extortions, kidnappings for ransom, and other heinous crimes. He decried that despite everything the people were forced to call a peaceful strike as they have been left entirely to the mercy of the criminals and the government is not doing anything to provide security.

Mr Altaf Hussain expressed his sorrow at the attempts to weaken the unity of the business community when it is needed the most to resist the menacing grip of the extortion mafia. He expressed full support and solidarity with the business community and said that the MQM supports their genuine demands for eradicating the thuggery of the extortion mafia. He also held out full assurances to the business community and said that the MQM will not leave them alone at any cost. He said that the MQM will continue to raise voice for their rights at every forum.

 

MQM ASSURES FULL SUPPORT TO SMALL BUSINESS OWERNS AND TRADE ASSOCIATIONS

The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has congratulated the small business owners and trade associations on the success of their peaceful strike against rising crimes of extortion, loot and kidnapping for ransom. The Co-ordination Committee termed the strike a bold step. The Co-ordination Committee regretted that some big businessmen and traders wanted to create division in the business community and said that the people of Karachi are grieved at their shameful attempt to harm the unity of business community to advance their own petty interests. The Co-ordination Committee assured small business owners and market associations that the MQM is the political party representing the interests of the 98 per cent people of the country and it will stand by them in every difficult time. The Co-ordination Committee reiterated its demand for action against the hardened criminals, extorters, kidnappers and blood-thirsty marauding elements. The Co-ordination Committee demanded of the federal and provincial governments and law-enforcing agencies not to leave Karachi that generates 70 per cent of the revenue for the country at the mercy of handful of criminals so that the wheel of economy moves forward.

 

MQM PARLIAMENTARIANS CALL WITHDRAWING DECISION TO ABOLISH HEC

The MQM parliamentarians have demanded of the government to withdraw the decision to abolish the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and defer the devolution process for at least five years. The parliamentarians said that the HEC has played a pivotal role in promoting the higher education in the country and devolving the commission to the provinces without any planning would result in irreparable damage to the higher education in the country.

The Parliamentarians emphasized upon the need promoting higher education in the country and recognized the beneficial results produced by the HEC in this regard. They said that the number of PhDs and research scholars has increased considerably particularly in the fields of science and technology and hence it is necessary to avoid any hasty action about devolving HEC to the provinces. They said that the decision should be deferred for at least five years during which time the provinces should develop infrastructure and prepare for in every possible manner for the big responsibility. The MQM parliamentarians stressed upon President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani and the Chief Ministers of all the provinces to withdraw the decision to abolish HEC in the larger interest of the country.
