ADDRESS OF MQM FOUNDER AND LEADER MR ALTAF HUSSAIN TO A
MAGNIFICENT PUBLIC MEETING AT FOOT BALL GROUND LAHORE

Respected elders, mothers, sisters, youths, students, leaders of various political parties, workers, analysts, columnists, journalists, all the people who are gathered here  to attend this public meeting and all those who are listening to my voice across the length and breadth of Pakistan, to all of them I say Assalam-o-Alaikum.

My brothers, mothers, sisters and elders of the Punjab

Do you want to see Pakistan a prosperous country? [Do you want to] bring positive changes for a prosperous Pakistan? Do you want to see Pakistan free from oppression and cleansed of corruption?  [If yes] then you will have to show discipline and give clear message to the world powers that we are a united nation by sitting at your place. The revolution of the poor and middle class is about to come. [No] dictation will be taken from any power now.

I want to show the discipline of the people of Pakistan not to the Pakistani politicians and the political parties but to the world powers. [I] want to make them understand that Pakistanis are an honourable [and] disciplined nation so that even the biggest power dares not to carry out drone strikes in Pakistan and cast an evil eye on our beloved country. Those who say that [the MQM will take] a long time [to establish] with the people of the Punjab [before making any substantial gain], so my brothers of the Punjab, tell them even today that there is no difference among the people of Karachi, Sindh and the Punjab. I want to tell the world powers and all the analysts to come and see [for yourself as to] who are the people of the Punjab with and how much disciplined [they are]. I will call 1, 2 and 3 and you should maintain such a silence in the place that if anyone dares to look upon us with an evil eye then we will silence him like what we are displaying [here].

You have told the world powers and all the analysts by exhibiting the traditional discipline of the MQM that the MQM and Altaf Hussain have arrived in the Punjab. And now no power of the world including the establishment of Pakistan can stop the arrival of a public revolution in Pakistan. I was always stopped from coming to the Punjab but Allah Almighty says, “Verily the truth is arrived and falsehood is perished. Allah has power over everything.” [As of] today Altaf Hussain and MQM have arrived in the Punjab and taken the Punjab by storm.

The youths of the Punjab….. Students..... should listen to my speech attentively so that [when] they go to their respective schools, colleges and universities; they are able to inform other students as to what does the MQM and Altaf Hussain want. Remember that whenever the oppressed segment of a country gets united it results in a peaceful revolution in the region and the younger generation, particularly the students become the vanguard of that revolution. You would have listened to big leaders, but I am not a leader like traditional politicians…..I am from amongst you…..I am like you…..I obtained my primary education sitting on a worn-out rug…..first I did matriculation from a school…..I used to travel hanging in a bus in such a way that I had books in my one hand and the rod of the bus in another and I used to travel in buses like this to school, college and university…..I worked hard during my education [days]….. Gave tuitions….. Pulled carts…..and collected money for my education…..I know as to what are the problems [faced by the] poor people [in their quest] for education. I have seen poverty and I know the manner in which poor people stand in long queues at the government hospitals for getting treatment…..[I know as to] how many years they have run [from pillar to post] for the operation…. I know as to how difficult it is for a poor person to feed all the family members…..I have seen these problems myself…..I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth….. And I have seen poverty from my childhood [days], it is because of this that I am making practical efforts for the rights of the poor and middle class people….. It was because of these noble efforts that I, Altaf Hussain was not allowed to come to the province of the Punjab….. False accusations were hurled at Altaf Hussain and the MQM….. Falsely accused of treason….. I was called an enemy of the Punjabis…..Pathans…..Baluchis….. Sindhis…. and do not know who else….. I am not an enemy of any nationality [living in Pakistan] rather an enemy of the feudal lords…..waderas…. who have robbed the national wealth…. And [I am an] enemy of the chieftains who are cruel [to their people].

I am grieved at the fact that our foreign policies are dictated by the persons belonging to America, Britain and other foreign countries [despite the fact that] Pakistan is a free country.  What sort of freedom is this?..... What type of autonomy is this?..... Whenever a country desires it sends planes and carries out drone strikes in our land killing hundreds of innocent Pakistanis…… What type of freedom and autonomy are these?

I want a Pakistan where no power can cross our borders without our permission…..If a country….. intervenes on the basis of [brute] force then we should be able to say that instead of bombarding one or two places it should decimate us by bombarding over all of Pakistan…..but we cannot live this life of dishonour any longer….Every now and then we are begging for assistance before the IMF….. World Bank….. and other financial institutions of the world. We want to make Pakistan a country where Pakistan may not need to ask fort the charity and assistance of any country. [We want to make Pakistan a country where] the Pakistani nation could suffer hunger in order to make Pakistan so much powerful economically that instead of remaining in group of aid-accepting countries we may join with the donor countries.

My brothers of the Punjab! I do not speak garrulously like other political leaders but I speak straight. I say with full belief in Allah and his Messenger as if they are here at the very moment that if the people of the Punjab bring the MQM in power….. what the MQM is saying….. it will do….. If the powers that be stopped us from serving the people and did not allow our revolutionary programme to get implemented in the country then we would spurn power…..[and] would not take [even] a single day in coming out of power…..MQM does not want a bloody revolution in Pakistan…..the MQM wants that a peaceful public revolution comes in Pakistan through democratic means…..If the public bring the MQM in power then the MQM would make such positive amendments in the constitution of Pakistan that would be beneficial to every citizen of Pakistan….. The first work that MQM will do [would be] to make education up to matriculation level compulsory for every Pakistani citizen…..education will be free up to matriculation level….. students up to the matriculation level will be given books free of cost…..amendments will be made in the constitution and legislation will be done against parents forcing their children to labour instead of sending them to schools. The parliament would suggest punishment for the parents who would force their children to hard work. The course of schools in the poor and rich areas will be same and the MQM would implement the same course throughout the country. MQM will make Pakistan a truly democratic country by amending the constitution and towards [achieving this goal] the decaying feudal system, chieftain system and uncontrolled capitalism will be brought to an end.

An independent foreign policy of Pakistan will be made that will be really based upon autonomy and drone strikes on the borders of Pakistan…..foreign intervention…..taking dictation[from foreign powers] will be ended….. The process of taking aid and charity from the IMF, World Bank and other financial institutions will discontinue and such economic policies will be adopted…..a network of cottage industries will be spread throughout the country and opportunities will be created for setting up of small businesses and industries for the economic uplift of the country and the public by giving small [and soft] loans. Unemployment will be brought to an end and if for any reason a person is unemployed he will be given subsistence allowance…..salaries of government servants will be increased…..all this will be done by confiscating and selling the properties of those who had obtained loans worth billions…..trillions and got them written-off and have accumulated properties and palaces in the country as well as abroad through loot, [taking] commission when they were in power….the money obtained after selling their properties will be deposited in the national exchequer and positive steps will be taken for eliminating poverty, unemployment and inflation. The country will be transformed into a truly democratic Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the light of the revolutionary ideals and teachings of Quad-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal…. where the Christians…..Sikhs…..Hindus…..Parsis and other non-Muslim Pakistanis will have equal rights and status as compared to Muslim Pakistanis…..Women make up 51 per cent of the population of Pakistan…..MQM will abolish all the black laws that are the cause of discrimination against women…..every type of discriminatory treatment against the women will be brought to an end…..karo-kari…..watta satta…..vani…..honour killing…..and marriage with the Quran will be banned. The continuation of kiln labours (bhatta mazdoors) will end. Child labour….. getting hard labour from children will be banned….. feudal system, chieftain system and uncontrolled capitalism will be brought to an end…..all the wealth that has been looted from the national exchequer will be brought back in the country….. budget of the health sector will be increased so that maternity homes and dispensaries are built in the villages and a big hospital will be constructed in every village.

In order to eliminate corruption and dishonest practices an institution of accountability will be made that will be composed of god-fearing people who have earned their livelihood honestly throughout their lives. Then [after this] whether it is the MQM minister or senator that resorts to corruption or it is the public representative belonging to any other political party…..all will have to face fierce accountability…..courts will be made independent and autonomous.

Whether it is the Seraiki people…… people of Bahawalpur…..people of Hazara….. their demands for separate provinces will be decided according to their wishes and aspirations by holding public referendums. Industries and hospitals will be built in southern Punjab and the injustices done to the people of southern Punjab will be removed.

Kashmir dispute….. will be resolved honourably according to the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir…..God willing the Kashmir dispute will be solved once and for all during the MQM government.

Dynastic politics will be brought to an end in the country….. laws will be enacted against those who oppress labourers, peasants, farmers, workers and poor people and hard punishments will be given so that [in future] no feudal lord could treat [his] poor tenants and farmers with cruelty. Estates of big feudal lords will be brought to an end and a limit will be placed upon [maximum] landholdings and the extra land will be distributed among poor farmers.

I say to the people of the Punjab to force the present federal and provincial governments to solve the Baluchistan issue by dialogue…..and…..by embracing the Baluchi people….instead of [using] power. For the same of God! For the sake of God prevent Baluchistan from separating with Pakistan. MQM is ready to play its role unconditionally for removing the grievances of the people of Baluchistan and for keeping it within Pakistan.

Industries are shut due to the load-shedding of gas and electricity in the country. We will make a system for the transmission and distribution of energy in order to stop load-shedding of gas and electricity in the country….. MQM believes in the freedom of the media…..the process of curbs and restrictions against the media must end…..the government must lift ban against Geo Super and Aag TV…..MQM will announce the wage board for the journalists soon after coming in power and will give them their due rights…..if the people of the Punjab…..want to change their condition and [the condition of] Pakistan, then they should grasp the hands of their brother Altaf.

My brothers of the Punjab! There are haq parast senators in the MQM…..there are members of national and provincial assemblies but there is no feudal lord and uncontrolled capitalist in the MQM….. if the MQM can bring these educated and able persons in the assemblies then why can’t the educated…..honest….upright…..and able people…..from the Punjab reach in the senate, national assembly and provincial assemblies after getting elected? If the elders of the province of the Punjab, youths, mothers and sisters promise to help their brother Altaf then Altaf Hussain would ensure that the able, honest and educated people belonging to the poor and middle [of the Punjab] class are elected.

I want to tell the feudal lords of the southern, northern and central Punjab that if they subjected the MQM workers to their cruelties and oppression then they should listen that these [workers] are the followers of Altaf Hussain…..they cannot be cowed down.

If the MQM gets a chance to come in power then we will finish street crimes throughout the country…..legislation will be done at the provincial and federal levels against …..crimes of kidnappings for ransom…..extortion.

[We will] safeguard builders of the future by eliminating drugs and narcotics.

My brothers, my sisters, elders ! My salute of praise to the workers of Lahore and office-bearers and workers of those districts of the Punjab who have held this successful public meeting by working days and nights like genies.

I pay tribute to the members of the Co-ordination Committee…..elected representatives…..members of all the wings of the MQM who guided their colleagues of the Punjab. No movement can succeed without the participation of the mothers and sisters from the Punjab….. MQM needs the support of haq parast mothers and sisters because if [any political party] is doing revolutionary work it is only the MQM. All the workers should spread in the villages and hamlets of the Punjab with renewed determination and spirit….any play their active role for making the message of haq parasti popular [in the public] so that at the times of elections the victory of haq parast candidates are announced at every place the time of declaration of results.

May Allah help us…..[May Allah] keep Pakistan forever…… [May Allah] give us success for our noble efforts.
