KARACHI: The device used in the Nishtar Park blast was of C-4 type, the most powerful type of explosives also used in an attempt on President Pervez Musharraf’s life in December 2003 as well as in other high-profile bombing cases, sources close to the investigation told The News.

ALTAF URGES RESTRAINT IN COMMENTS ABOUT NISHTER PARK TRAGEDY
KARACHI ( APRIL 15,2006)----MQM leader Altaf Hussain has directed party’s rabita committee members, parliamentarians and others to exercise restraint in their comments about political rivals pr their roles in the Nishter Park tragedy till such time investigations into the case is complete. This has been done to prevent the political atmosphere from polluting. In a statement from London, he said that Muttahida Quami Movement does not believe in opposition for the sake of opposition. He said MQM wanted the culprits of the Nishter Park tragedy to be arrested and punished according to law irrespective of their party or political affiliation. He appealed to other political parties also to avoid accusing MQM or giving irresponsible statements. INSPECTOR MOHAMMAD IQBAL OF THE BOMB DISPOSAL SQUAD DISCLOSED THAT THE EXPLOSIVE MATERIAL USED AT THE NISHTAR PARK BOMBING WAS SIMILAR TO ONE USED AT IMAMBARGAH HYDERI AND IMAM BARGAH ALI RAZA IN KARACHI.  DEPUTY INSPECTOR GENERAL (DIG) MANZOOR MOGHUL, IN HIS PRESS CONFERENCE EXHIBITED THE PHOTOGRAPH OF THE HEAD OF THE SUICIDAL BOMBER AND APPEALED TO THE ELECTRONIC AND PRINT MEDIA TO SHOW THE PHOTOGRAPH TO HELP PUBLIC IDENTIFY THE SUICIDAL BOMBER. REPORTEDLY, TWO BOMBERS WERE COMMITTED THE CARNAGE. HOWEVER, THE POLICE HAS DISCLOSED ONLY ONE PHOTOGRAPH. DIG MANZOOR MOGHUL STATED THAT NO ONE HAS SO FAR COME FORWARD TO CLAIM THE HEADS OF THE SUICIDAL BOMBERS.

MQM ANNOUNCED THREE DAYS MOURNING ON NISHTER PARK BLOODBATH
The Co-ordination committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned the bomb blast in the Nishter Park and announced that MQM will observe three days mourning.
In a statement MQM co-ordination committee strongly condemned the bomb blast and death of dozens of innocent people including Haji Hanif Billo, Hafiz Taqi and Iftikhar Bhatti. MQM co-ordination committee appealed to the people of Sindh to participate peacefully in three days mourning and maintain the law and order in the city. Founder and Leader of MQM Mr. Altaf Hussain has approved the decision of co-ordination committee to observe mourning.

At least 46 killed, over 100 injured as bomb explodes

At least 46 people were killed and dozens injured when a bomb exploded at Karachi's Nishtar Park Tuesday evening when faithfuls were offering Mughrib (Evening Prayers) after attending a mammoth meeting to celebrate the birthday of the Holy Prophet. Jinnah hospital confirms 20 dead bodies and dozens injured. Civil hospital was also receiving dead bodies and casualties but official count was not readily available.
